This picture represents Jesse perfectly. This was Jesse's first jersey. He really got into basketball this year and although this is a football jersey, at least it's a jersey. All of his friends wear basketball jerseys and shorts to school every single day. I have some pretty darn cute clothes for Jesse and the thought of him wearing jerseys to school everyday was a bit upsetting for me. But, it's not about me, it's about Jesse and how he wants to express himself through clothing. Jesse is constantly thinking... of ways to understand the way things are made, of ways to make things, of ways to maximize play time, of things to read etc. I've mentioned before how well balanced this kid is, and he continues to shine in balancing... life. This year Jesse developed a liking for a fellow classmate named Julia. He started talking about Julia a few months ago and how much he liked her. He mentioned that his friends, "The Amigos" expressed their distaste in his choice to hang out with Julia. Jesse decided to not care and hung out with her at recess anyway. For a while I thought maybe this newfound friendship was more in his head than in real life, but I went with it. A few weeks later I ran into Julia's mom, and she said that when Julia found out that we were moving, she was very upset. She told me that Jesse was such a good friend to Julia- always looking out for her, giving her pencils and things when she needed them. Julia's mom wanted to know if Jesse would be her pen pal when we moved away. Close to the last day of school Jesse decided to give Julia a gift. I didn't get a chance to ask him what he gave her until after school, and this is what he told me... He gave her a picture of Christ, a bookmark with the 13 articles of faith, and a paper with his favorite scripture from the Book of Mormon written on it. A true missionary moment from a boy who was just trying to share something meaningful with a girl he really likes.

And now I will finish my entry...
So on the last day of school, Jesse was sitting in the family's van and I engaged him in conversation. "Hey Jesse, how are you and Julia doing?"
(long pause)..."Well, Grandpa we are doing good (another long pause)...we are actually trying to keep it a secret..." Oh, that little guy, you can just have such wonderful conversations with him sometimes. That is, as long as he doesn't make it just one way by playing 20 questions, filled with "why this and why that..."
