Jesse is almost 5 1/2! It's very strange to think of life before Jesse. This boy is like magic. Although sometimes overwhelming, his zest for life is bigger than he is.

His imagination is completely off the charts which makes me wonder if he inherited any of my genetics in this category. When it's time to eat breakfast, Alex and Shane dig right it. Jesse on the other hand sits and ponders the many things on his mind. Then he starts talking and talking and talking. He asks question after question and tells big stories about his dreams or something that happened in his imagination. "Mom, is Heavenly Father stronger than Bolder Man? What comes after outer space? What comes after a zillion? Why did Spencer tell me that zero comes after infinity, is that true? If an elephant gave you a hug would it kill you? How does food turn into poo poo?" Those are just a few of the hundreds of questions he asks on a daily basis.

What does Jesse love? He loves dressing up, being outside, drawing pictures of windows, maps, and people. He loves to laugh, and he has the most contagious laugh ever. If a bear could laugh, that would be the description of Jesse's laugh. He loves to write letters. The only problem with this is that he doesn't know how to spell so he asks me to spell every single word in the entire letter. Jesse LOVES books. He especially enjoys scary, morbid, dark ones. He loves cheese pizza and special drinks (mixed juices, lemonade and hot chocolate). He is easily frustrated. He likes everything to be perfect and gets quite upset when he ruins pictures or writes the wrong letter(or writes it backwards). Today he told me he is mad at Heavenly Father because when he prayed that the wind would stop while he ate his lunch outside, it didn't. He is very obedient. Oh, he'll whine if he doesn't want to do something but he will always do it before he is disciplined. He is always willing to help... he is a great cleaner (definitely my son).

If he isn't tired, he looks out for his brother and sister. If they get hurt, he asks if they are ok. He is always sharing his toys with them, mostly because he is looking for maximum fun and it's no fun playing with all his toys by himself. There is a very special place in my heart for Jesse. I'm pretty hard on him. I expect a lot from him, more than I do from Alex and Shane. He has lived through a very stressful time with me. When the twins were born, I was pretty stressed out. I all of the sudden expected this  two year old child to grow up. He definitely missed out on a fun mom for a while. But, I know he was born first for a reason. The reason he is first born is slowly unfolding before my eyes and although I have regrets with him, I feel that he is very forgiving. I can't imagine life without this beautiful boy. When Jesse enters the scene, the party begins :>)

Today after the "tick" was removed from Jesse's head, he came out to me in the yard, where I was working and said, "grandpa, we prayed to Heavenly Father that I would not have any more pain after my got the tick off me. And I don't have any more pain. Heavenly Father answers prayers." What an angel!

I know I have some regrets with our firstborn too, as far as having verbalized expectations that were more consistent with a 12 year old at age 4. I didn't realize it until much later after you have, and that is a blessing.

I love that little Batman, or is it Superman, or a Power Ranger today?

Thanks Jesse for the picture you drew of you and me this morning. I took it home on my motorcycle, where you put it, and now have it hanging up on my wall.

I love you!

Grandpa

What an imagination? He is definitely a sweet and unique kiddo. "Is Heavenly Father stronger than Bolder Man?" Classic.
